Complications - Malunion

- common problem - usually related to inadequate initial closed reduction
- in the proximal tibia, valgus deformity may occur despite anatomic reduction; likely related to vascular disturbance

Forearm
- accept 10 of angulation ,45 of malrotation, and complete displacement as long as the interosseous space is maintained
- angulatory deformity may remodel, but there is no potential for rotational deformity to remodel
- in general, midshaft fractures in children less than 8 yrs tend to remodel - but after age 11, don’t count on remodeling to correct your fucking up of the initial reduction!
- remodeling is, in general, better the closer to the epiphysis, and in line of joint movement
